Week Three 30/09/06

Checkpoint Questions

1. How well is your project going so far?
It is still earlier on in the proccess so it is hard to tell how well the project is going, however i have not come across many problems and i am rapidly learning more about my topic everyday.

2. What issues have you encountered?
 As i previously mentioned i have encountered almost no problems at all so far, however i can foresee future problems i may encounter. For example i am begining to create a plot for my artefact and have considered the logistical problems with some of my ideas.

3. How have you overcome them?
I am currently in the process of finding a plausible way of creating the vision i have in my mind.

4. How are you managing your time?
Managing my time between my other subjects and independent projects has been a problem within itself, however i have timetabled my weekly schedule and have dedicated a specific time period to researching and progressing with my Extended Project.

5. What areas do you need to research?
So far i have researched the history of the movement and the conventions which identify the movement. Now i am going to research the legacy and lasting effect on the film industry the movement has had.

6. Make a time plan for the next 2 weeks, outlining what you need to achieve.
By 15/10/14 I shall have completed the following.
A) Research the legacy of German Expressionism.
B) Create plot of artefact and write first draft of beat sheet.

By 15/12/14
A) Watch Algol, The Golem, Genuine, From Morn to Midnight, Torgus, Destiny, The House On The Moon, Dr Mabuse The Gambler, Warning Shadows, The Treasure, Raskolnikow, Earth Spirit, The Stone Rider, Waxworks, Kriemhild's Revenge, The Hand Of Orlac, Tartuffe, The Chronicle of the Grey House, Faust, Metropolis.
B) Watch Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, and Tim Burton Films.

Week One 16/09/14

My Extended Project had a slow start, being a film student I knew I wanted to make a short film artefact about the theory or creation of film, however I had no specific idea to work with, no theme, no theory, no genre. I dedicated my first session to deciding what I wanted to produce.

By the end of the session I was still lost. I had come up with a few ideas (the theme of revenge and the Monomyth theory by Joseph Cambell being a few) but none of them interested me enough our were logistically possible. I left the sesssion no step closer to finding any inspiration.

Later the same day I had a film studies lesson and my teacher, Jason Lee briefly showed us an image to help us understand the concept of contrast in light.

He also went on to talk about German expressionism shortly before moving on with the lesson. The image immediately sparked my intrigue leading me to investigate German Expressionism even more. I discovered that it eventually became a very influential creative movement, inspiring Directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, and Tim Burton. For the near future i shall watch and analyse critically acclaimed German expressionism such as The Cabinet Of Doctor Caligari, Nosferatu, And Metropolis, then I shall Write a short summary of the history, the legacy and components of German Expressionism.
